6 million unwanted babies later…

Bulgaria - first in the EU in registered abortions. Every month, more than a thousand Bulgarian women deliberately remove their child with an abortion of their choice, without medical reasons, BGNES (2020) reports, citing data from the National Center for Public Health and Analysis.

The history of Bulgaria shows that in 1948, when no abortion was performed, 176,000 children in the country cried for the first time. For comparison, the number of babies born in 2019 in Bulgaria is only 61 thousand.

In 1953, abortion at the woman's request became legal, and in the following years we saw a drastic increase in abortions in our country, peaking in the 1970s. In 1972, abortions were even more than children born - 154 thousand abortions against 131 thousand babies born.

While looking at these statistics, we cannot help but see that in reality in Bulgaria since 1953 until today, more children have been aborted on average than were born. In this situation, it is not surprising that in our country today there are about 270,000 families who cannot have children, and also that our nation is facing a serious demographic crisis.

And while in America there is no political candidate who can remain silent on the subject, in Bulgaria there is complete apathy and indifference in parliament and society. In essence, this debate is not whether abortion should be legal or not, but whether abortion is a form of murder?

What do pro-election activists say?

Proponents of abortion believe that what they are doing is acceptable. The atheistic worldview says that human life does not begin until birth. The fetus cannot exercise self-determination. Until birth, the fetus is considered simply as an organ of the mother's body. Since the "organ" is not a separate human being, it cannot express a desire for life. Therefore, the fetus is no different from the appendix.

What does science say? Is the embryo a human being? When does life begin?

Science has refuted many of the "classical" arguments used by the pro-choice movement. Statements such as "We can't know" or "it's just a growth" have been scientifically refuted in recent decades. Despite the indisputable facts, a number of groups of people choose to ignore science, claiming that life begins when "the woman decides."

The question is objective, not subjective. To determine the status of an embryo is not a matter of personal preference or one's own opinion - whether it is alive or inanimate, or a human individual or a non-human individual. What I think doesn't determine which of these things is actually true. If the fetus (from the Latin "little baby") is a living being, my own opinion on the matter has no factual significance of what the fetus really is. With my own thoughts or beliefs, I cannot change a person into a non-human, a living inanimate or a inhuman.

DNA does not lie: the zygote has a unique DNA that is separate from the mother and is obviously a unique organism by scientific definition. The stage of human development is irrelevant to the discussion of whether he or she is a separate life. The human embryo is simply a smaller baby, even when the baby is simply a smaller human being.

In other words, every human life begins with conception. There is no dispute in science on this issue. If an object performs biological processes, it is undoubtedly alive, that is, it has life in it. With the latest technology, we can easily see that the reproductive cell of a man (sperm) and a woman (egg) connect, delivering 23 chromosomes on each side, creating a unique human genotype with 46 chromosomes, and subsequently a unique phenotype. which can never be re-created in human history. His life begins right there, in the first second of the fusion of mother and father's genes (refuting the claim that it is only "the mother and her body alone").

Like a young child and adolescent, the terms "embryo" and "fetus" do not refer to non-humans, but to people at different stages of development. It is scientifically incorrect to say that a human embryo or fetus is not a human being simply because it is at an earlier stage in its life.

It's like saying that a small child is not a human being because he is not yet a teenager. Does anyone become more human when they get older? If so, are adults more human than children? Something inhuman does not become human or more human as it gets older or bigger; whatever is human is human from the beginning or cannot be human at all. The right to life does not increase with age and size; otherwise young children and adolescents have less right to life than adults.

The evidence from science:

  1. The cardiovascular system is the first functioning system. On the 20th day after conception, the baby's heart begins to pump blood different from the mother's, and his heartbeat can be detected by ultrasound.
  2. In the sixth week, the baby's eyes, eyelids, nose, mouth and tongue are already formed.
  3. From the eighth week onwards, the unborn baby has the ability to experience pain and the baby has developed all its organs and body structures.
  4. By the tenth week of conception, the baby can make movements and stretches.
  5. Ultrasound from the 20th week shows not only photos, but video from the active life of the baby in the womb: clapping hands, sucking index finger, yawning, belching, plugging the ears at a loud sound - even a smile.

From these facts, we see that the development of technology has helped man to clearly define how people think of the fetus as a fully breathing human being. In other words, "He is not a man" is not a scientific argument - it has nothing to do with science, but with the morality or political vision and philosophy of that man (although some may not admit it).

What does the Bible say about abortion?

The Bible does not mention the word abortion, but that does not mean that God's word is silent on the issue of killing the unborn.

Proverbs 24: 11-12:

“11. Deliver those drawn to death and keep those who stumble to slaughter.

12. If you say: Here, we did not know this! "Doesn't he who weighs hearts understand?" Doesn't the one who guards your soul know? And will he not repay every man according to his deeds? ”

The Bible also emphasizes the fact that every human life was uniquely created by God.

Psalms 139: 13-16:

„13. For you formed my inward parts,

you created me in my mother's womb.

14. I will praise thee, for I am terribly and wonderfully made;

Your works are wonderful, and my soul knows it.

15. My bones were not hidden from You,

when I was made in secret and artfully crafted

in the depths of the earth.

16. Your eyes have seen my unformed body;

all the days allotted to me have been recorded in your book

before one of them appeared. "

In the book Job 10: 8-12, the following is stated:

"8. Your hands formed me and made all my parts whole – and will you swallow me up?

9. Remember, please, that you have burnt me like clay - and will you return me to the dust?

10. Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and hast not clothed me as cheese?

11. Thou hast covered me with skin and flesh, and hast covered me with bones and veins.

12. You have given me life and mercy, and Your protection has preserved my spirit.”

These and many other verses in the Bible speak of the value of the unborn:

„25. He himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. " Acts 17:25.

„13. You created my innermost being; You connected me in my mother's womb. " Psalms 139: 13.

„6. I have relied on you from my mother's womb, You separated me by birth. To You is my constant glory. Proverbs 71: 6

"5. As you do not know the way in which the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a pregnant woman, so you do not know the work of God, who makes all things" (Ecclesiastes 11: 5).

Not only does God create each person, but He is intimately engaged in His work. This is confirmed when the Bible says that God knows specific people in the womb.

Jeremiah: „5. Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I separated you; I have made you a prophet to the nations. ” Jeremiah 1: 5.

David: „16. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days allotted to me were recorded in Your book before one of them appearedPsalms 139: 16.

The Apostle Paul: „15. God, Who separated me from my mother's womb and called me by His grace " Galatians 1:15.

The second greatest commandment in Scripture is: „31. Love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31). And while many are trying to justify the issue „29. Who is my neighbor? (Luke 10:29), God wants the Church to deal with mercy, not semantics. We are called to love everyone whom God has created in His image, from the beginning to the end of his life. Every child in the womb is God's creation and is part of God's plan. In His own incarnation, Christ shows how holy the child is by spending nine months in His mother's womb.

The Son of God was born of a woman (Galatians 4: 4) and took upon Himself the punishment that would otherwise befall us. He received the condemnation caused by our moral failures and took upon Himself the punishment that would otherwise have befallen us and thus reconciled us to the Father. His death, in fact, is connected with God's forgiveness of sin. It is a substitute for the sins of everyone who believes in Him.

„23. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

“24. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24.

The Bible tells us that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ has eternal life, not because he has done something good to deserve it, but only because of Christ's work on the cross and Christ's righteousness, which is imputed and attributed to us at the moment. in whom we believe in the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ (II Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3: 9).

To Him belongs all glory. Amen!
